A career in sales marketing is structured around the formulating and implementation of a market strategy to maximize the penetration of your product or service directly to the target consumer. This market strategy will include finding your intended demographics, making what your selling as attractive as possible to them, and then taking it to them and convincing them it could make their lives better. Doing this effectively directly benefits both the company you are working for and your career path for the future. In fact, due to the nature of marketing and sales jobs, you, as an employee, will have a clear "value-added" element that is easily quantifiable to show your worth to the company. Similarly, since this type of job requires knowledge of both marketing and sales, it provides a wide base of expertise which can be attractive for a potential executive position. As well, if you find that you perform exceedingly well in either side, then you might find yourself appointed as solely either a marketing or sales director.
