Women’s Day 2018: Network, Events and Inspiration for Your Career

Posted on 08 March 2018 by Rebecca Dunne

Around Ireland, women are banding together to support, inspire and create their own and each other’s careers. In honour of Women's Day 2018, we have rounded up some of our team’s favourite networking groups and events and inspiration.

Network Ireland is a Women's Business Network  that describes itself as “a progressive, dynamic organisation supporting the professional and personal development of women”.

Membership is made up of a very diverse group of women, from budding entrepreneurs, SME owners, professionals and leaders in indigenous and multinational organisations to non-profits, charities, arts and the public sector. The network has a strong voice and is interested in promoting diversity and equality, entrepreneurship and leadership development; collaborating with like-minded people and organisations. They also have branches all over Ireland: www.networkireland.ie/our-branches.

Girls in Tech (GIT)  is a global non-profit focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of girls and women who are passionate about technology. Adriana Gascoigne founded GIT in 2007 to create a support framework to help women advance their careers in STEM fields.

Mum Talks believe strongly that being a mum should not stop you reaching your career goals or enjoying your life passions, both of which are vital for self-care but can sometimes feel forgotten about or may need to be re-evaluated when you have children. They hold daytime and evening events every month.

The National Women's Council of Ireland (NWCI) campaign for Women in Leadership. NWCI’s campaign for a 30% gender quota for candidates in national elections has helped to increase the number of female TDs.

NWCI’s handbook ‘Better Boards, Better Business, Better Society’ highlights key recommendations on how to achieve gender balanced boardrooms. Their research ‘Hearing Women’s Voices’, has highlighted the under-representation of women’s voices in current affairs and news broadcast. NWCI is also working with young women to develop a positive model of leadership that empowers them to play their part in shaping the future.

GirlCrewis a platform for women to make new friends. Not keen on going to a concert solo? Find a crew with us. Want to book a vacation but your friends are all coupled up? Find a group of awesome girls to travel with here. Whatever you can dream up, you can do with the crew. Find out more.

Women's inspire Network connects women in the business community to share their ups and downs and to learn new skills along the way. This is the perfect group for any women considering starting a business or already working from home or building empire. Women Inspire Network has regular online, nationwide and national event for Women.

Tatler and IMAGE magazines both run events aimed at empowering and inspiring women in business. Look out for Tatler magazine’s Planet Women Academy at the RDS on the Friday 11th May 2018. Businesswoman Norah Casey pioneered a new approach to learning through the Planet Woman Academy and designed a programme exclusively for women. You won't find any power points or boring speeches. This is a day of high energy and powerful nuggets that will inspire you.

IMAGE magazine’s second Young Businesswomen's Forum of 2018 on March 27th, at the Westbury Hotel. Speakers at the event will be women who have each carved their ways very successfully in their respective fields in technology, the arts, and design.

For even more career inspiration, take a look at the winners of the Women Mean Business Awards. All are women who are leading in their field and carving a way forward for generations of professional women to come.
