Overview
A leading manufacturer in the Midlands is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join its on-site engineering team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining plant reliability, supporting production performance, and driving continuous improvement across the site. This position is ideally suited to a mechanically minded tradesperson who enjoys fault-finding, preventative maintenance, and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance activities across a range of production and process equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective repairs to minimise downtime and maximise plant availability.
- Maintain and overhaul mechanical systems including gearboxes, pumps, bearings, conveyors, chains, shafts, and associated equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure optimal machine performance.
- Assist with machinery upgrades, installations, and commissioning projects as part of ongoing site development plans.
- Conduct routine inspections and condition monitoring to identify potential issues before they impact production.
- Work closely with production personnel to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Accurately record maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

Criteria
- Qualified Mechanical Fitter, Craftsperson, or equivalent trade qualification (QQI Level 6 or similar).
- Minimum 3 years' maintenance experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or processing environment.
- Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical systems and production machinery.
- Proven experience working with rotating equipment, bearings, pumps, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programmes and equipment reliability practices.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
