Overview

A leading manufacturer in the Midlands is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join its on-site engineering team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining plant reliability, supporting production performance, and driving continuous improvement across the site. This position is ideally suited to a mechanically minded tradesperson who enjoys fault-finding, preventative maintenance, and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance activities across a range of production and process equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective repairs to minimise downtime and maximise plant availability.
• Maintain and overhaul mechanical systems including gearboxes, pumps, bearings, conveyors, chains, shafts, and associated equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure optimal machine performance.
• Assist with machinery upgrades, installations, and commissioning projects as part of ongoing site development plans.
• Conduct routine inspections and condition monitoring to identify potential issues before they impact production.
• Work closely with production personnel to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Accurately record maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

Criteria

• Qualified Mechanical Fitter, Craftsperson, or equivalent trade qualification (QQI Level 6 or similar).
• Minimum 3 years' maintenance experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or processing environment.
• Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical systems and production machinery.
• Proven experience working with rotating equipment, bearings, pumps, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Experience with preventative maintenance programmes and equipment reliability practices.
• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
