Project Engineering - Project Engineer (Electrical)

The Project Engineer (Electrical) will support the execution of a portfolio of electrical and infrastructure projects within a highly regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of all project elements including schedule, cost, scope, safety and quality.

This role requires a technically strong engineer who can operate both as a subject matter expert (SME) in electrical systems and as a project manager capable of leading design, construction, and commissioning phases.

About the Business Unit

The multiple national award-winning biopharmaceutical and medical device campus is in Waterford on Ireland's southeast coast.
Project Engineering provides project delivery services across the Waterford campus to support manufacturing operations, site infrastructure, and technology improvements within a controlled and regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and be responsible for all elements of assigned projects - Schedule, Cost, Scope, Safety and Quality.
  • Lead design management and ensure compliance with scope and user requirements.
  • Attend project and design meetings, ensuring accurate documentation and timely action closure.
  • Maintain project governance and report documentation including milestones
  • Manage contractor performance to ensure compliance with quality, schedule, and safety expectations.
  • Support tendering processes and coordinate with Document Control for timely submission to GEDMS.

Electrical SME Responsibilities

  • Act as the Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned projects and provide support to other project engineers as required.
  • Ensure all electrical works comply with Irish regulations and site standards.
  • Support review and approval of design documents, specifications, and vendor documentation.
  • Collaborate with Facilities and Maintenance teams to align projects with site electrical infrastructure strategy.
  • Apply electrical infrastructure strategy across all assigned projects and ensure adherence to best practices.

Schedule Management

  • Develop, maintain, and track project schedules.
  • Identify, record, and communicate delays via the PCC process.
  • Lead schedule workshops and challenge contractors proactively to maintain milestones.

Scope & Cost Management

  • Develop and maintain project URS/URB documentation.
  • Control scope & Cost changes and ensure any variations are captured through formal change processes.
  • Align budget and schedule with scope requirements and prevent scope creep.
  • Manage SIs (Site Instructions), cost reports, and forecast risks.

Safety

  • Ensure all work is planned and executed safely under the Safe Systems of Work.
  • Ensure RAMS are prepared and implemented before work commences.
  • Support the Construction Manager in ensuring safe project execution.

Quality

  • Ensure full compliance with site GMP and Change Control processes.
  • Maintain documentation control systems for submittals, RFIs, and specifications.
  • Ensure documentation reviews are completed by all stakeholders and filed per A21/Deliverables List.
  • Engage with key departments to ensure successful project outcomes.

Resources

  • Ensure adequate resourcing for all project activities.
  • Monitor progress against the plan and escalate resource constraints as needed.

Essential Skill Set

Project Management Skills:

Strong background in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
Ability to manage complex multi-stakeholder projects to successful completion.

Technical Skills:

Demonstrated experience with electrical systems in large-scale manufacturing or pharmaceutical environments.

Working Knowledge of PSCS role and responsibilities
Excellent understanding of electrical standards, safety systems, and Irish regulatory requirements.
Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Leadership and Communication:

Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate contractors.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent qualification.
    * 5-10 years' experience in engineering project delivery (construction and/or pharmaceutical preferred).
    * Trade certification with substantial on-site management experience will be considered.
    * Experience in GMP or highly regulated environments desirable.
