Systems & Automation Accountant
We are seeking a commercially astute, systems‑focused Accountant to play a key role in the modernisation and automation of our finance function. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys understanding processes at a granular level and is motivated by using technology and AI to improve how finance operates.
Please note: For the first few months, this role will be hands‑on and operational. You will work directly within existing manual workflows to fully understand how the business functions today. As these processes are automated, the role will naturally evolve into a higher‑level position with a strong focus on financial reporting, statutory accounting, and oversight.
The Role
Your initial focus will be to master our day‑to‑day finance operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and reconciliations. With a deep understanding of these processes, you will then help design, deploy, and monitor automation and AI‑led improvements that reduce manual effort and increase control and accuracy.
This is a long‑term opportunity to transition from execution‑focused work into a strategic, systems‑led accounting role.
Key Phases of the Role
Phase 1: Building the Foundation (Months 1-6)
- Execute end‑to‑end manual AP and AR processes, including invoice coding, approvals, cash collection, and ageing management
- Oversee daily cash application and monthly reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Document workflows, identify inefficiencies, and highlight automation opportunities
Phase 2: Automation & Progression (Months 6 )
- Lead or support the implementation of AI and system automation, transitioning key tasks from manual to automated
- Move from hands‑on processing to audit, review, and oversight of automated workflows
- Take ownership of month‑end close, management reporting, and technical accounting entries
- Assume responsibility for statutory accounts, audit coordination, and advanced compliance as operational workload reduces
How Success Is Measured
- High levels of accuracy and control during the initial manual phase
- Clear progress in automating core finance processes within 6-9 months
- A successful shift in focus from data processing to high‑value financial and statutory reporting
Candidate Profile
- ACA / ACCA part qualified with 3 years' experience in practice or industry
- Strong grounding in statutory accounting and/or audit
- Comfortable working through repetitive tasks in the short term, with a clear drive to improve and automate
- Naturally systems‑minded, with interest or experience in AI, automation, or modern ERP environments
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to see both process‑level and big‑picture improvements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
