Overview
A leading food manufacturing company in Co. Kildare is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician to join its high-performing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional looking to take on greater responsibility within a modern, highly automated production environment.
As a senior member of the maintenance function, you will combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, supporting the development of technicians, driving equipment reliability, and contributing to key engineering and continuous improvement initiatives. You'll play a critical role in ensuring production assets operate safely, efficiently, and at peak performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and support to maintenance teams during breakdowns, planned maintenance activities, and troubleshooting exercises.
- Drive equipment reliability through proactive maintenance strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and automation-related faults across the production facility.
- Mentor, coach, and support the development of Maintenance Technicians and Apprentices.
- Assist in the planning and execution of preventative maintenance programmes to maximise equipment uptime.
- Lead and contribute to root cause analysis investigations, implementing long-term corrective actions.
- Support the introduction, installation, and commissioning of new equipment and production technologies.
- Manage critical spare parts requirements and support inventory control activities.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, GMP, food safety, and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to improve plant performance, efficiency, and operational excellence.
Criteria
- A recognised trade qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or related Engineering discipline.
- Previous experience in a Maintenance Technician role within a manufacturing, food processing, FMCG, or highly regulated production environment.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience working with automated production equipment and process machinery.
- Knowledge of food processing equipment such as thermoformers, weighers, conveyors, cookers, packaging lines, or similar systems.
- Proven ability to lead by example and support the development of junior team members.
- A strong understanding of GMP, EHS, food safety, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and operational reliability.
