
Job Summary:
A Fresh Food Manager is required to oversee operations and staffing for this Superstore. The successful candidate will supervise all functions, duties and activities for the Produce, Chilled, Frozen and Bakery Departments, including but not limited to scheduling and ordering, as well as leading the team in achieving sales and profit goals established for the department. Demonstrate a love for food and passion for people, creating excellent customer experience in maintaining a friendly, safe and clean environment.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
· Maintain a full and fresh department that is the first thing customers see upon their entry, setting the tone for the store. Create an environment that allows customers to feel both welcome and secure in the knowledge that the products they purchase will be of high quality and freshness.
· Evaluate department conditions and operations to determine strengths and areas for improvement; reinforce strengths while developing and implementing improved practices and procedures.
· Ensure consistent execution of weekly produce merchandising plans, as created by the Category Manager. Inform and educate department staff about current, upcoming and in-store features.
· Notify and assist the store scanning coordinator in ensuring that item signage throughout the department is complete and accurate.
· Review/inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action with hose items, allocating aged but consumable product to the kitchen for recycling.
· Promote trust and respect among colleagues by communicating company, department and job specific information. Collaborate with colleagues and promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals.
· Write a weekly schedule to ensure that customer needs are met via an adequate level of staffing, particularly during weekends, holiday periods, and when containers arrive for offloading.
· Ensure department employees are trained, developed and accountable for following meat department policies and procedures and achieving department standards. Acts as a role model for staff through professional conduct. Administer and document corrective actions, with assistance of General Manager, where required.
· Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
· Maintain high cleanliness standards; i.e. clean as you go, inclusive of washing, cleaning, sweeping and mopping.
· Create and uphold a safe working environment with the support of the Health and Safety Committee and the General Manager.
· Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify the maintenance department and General Manager of any items in need of repair.
· Ensure proper temperatures are maintained in cases and coolers and temperature logs are kept.
· Other duties as requested or required by the General Manager or Director.
Job Requirements:
· Able to work a variety of shifts and maintain the flexibility to cover the seven (7) days/week operations of the business, to include weekends and holidays.
· Able to work in cold environments without any physical and psychological effects
· Must be able to lift and carry between 25 to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
· Standing for long periods of time.
· Ability to work in subzero temperatures.
· No interfering food allergies.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
· Able to read, write and speak English fluently.
· Minimum two (2) years' management experience in the retail, grocery, or restaurant industry.
· Must have basic math and computer skills.
· Must be able to problem-solve and plan ahead.
· Reliable, dependable, organized.
· Must have excellent communication and leadership skills with an outgoing, friendly, and positive attitude, applicable to interactions with both staff and customers.
· Qualified and experienced in managing a team of eight (8) or more employees
· Must have strong knowledge of produce items.
· Highly motivated with a sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Appropriate food handler's certificate.
